Saudi Arabia Bans the Color Red

It’s an attempt to squash Valentine’s day celebrations. Sheikh Khaled Al-Dossari, a scholar in Islamic studies, told the Saudi Gazette, an English-language newspaper:

"As Muslims we shouldn't celebrate a non-Muslim celebration, especially this one that encourages immoral relations between unmarried men and women, ".

And don’t forget it encourages the consuming of nasty little candy hearts and stale chocolate. And flora-cide –- Valentine’s day is the leading cause of flower murder in the world. I don’t know why we all don’t ban it. In fact, I know a lot of American men who would be just fine with such a regulation.

Well, I think we have to stand up for the holiday here. Let's face it, the notion of wooing a woman is antithetical to the official branded version of islam guys like this endorse, which prefers to treat the acquisition of women like a property matter.

In fact, if we men were really clever, we'd respond to this by setting up some program to honor our american women by sending valentines to bereft islamic women. Sort of like when someone donates to a charity in your name.

No wait, that would never work. "What, you sent flowers and chocolate to some other woman?" Probably take weeks to work our way back into the big bed.
