Democrat Leaders Should Read This
Over at Dean's World, Scott Kirwin has written a fascinating piece on why he left the Democrats in favor of the Republicans.
I don't fully agree with his assessment of what the Democratic Party now stands for, but his point is well made. Kirwin is clearly a man who would still be a happy Democrat if the party hadn't taken such a hard left turn since 2000. Democrats who wonder why they keep losing should read what he has to say.

I'm not sure I'd call that a hard left turn, at least not in the traditional sense. After all, Kirwin's biggest beef with the Dems, after their poor PR on national security, is their closet support for offshoring.
With all due respect to Kirwin, he may be a 9/11 Republican, but he's also a Thomas Frank Republican.
Tom, point well taken. I'd say they have turned left on national security issues but really not evolved much anywhere else. Nevertheless, the left wing of the party is certainly a lot more vocal and in control than they were in 2000, even if the party itself hasn't formerly or even quietly adopted leftwing positions on such things as trade.
